Ben Vautier, an artist simply known as Ben, is a believer in art as a populist form of communication rather than the exclusive pastime of an elite few. In the 1960s, he playfully took this idea to a new level by adding his cursive signature to everything he could, including other artworks and his own body parts. ''My theoretical hobbyhorse concerning contemporary art has always been that you have to find something new, bring something else that you can recognize by saying, 'Well! That's Ben's.'
